THE PSYCHO GEOGRAPHY PROJECT

This is an ongoing exploration of the emotive quality
of place. We take a measure of the past, present
and future of a place – both rationally (history, current reality) and emotionally (feelings, dreams).
We weave these themes into a story and we then record and
perform the resulting play in the place itself.

‘Do Not Feed the Pigeons’
The first PsychoGeography project took place in
Trafalgar Square. Commissioned by the Lomographic Society, we took the analogue, shoot-from-the-hip attitude of the Lomographers and created an audio drama that involved pre-recording on analogue equipment and elements of live performance in a bid to plunge the participant into a truly
individual experience of Trafalgar Square.

Participants are given a walkman and invited on a journey
across the square and into the imagination
– a ‘PsychoGeographic’ encounter in a supposedly familiar
place where anything could happen.

As you move through the square a story unfolds around
you, with you at the centre. Live and recorded sound
merges in this strange and beautiful world.
If you’re lucky you emerge with photographic evidence of your
travels and Trafalgar Square will never look the same again.

We are currently looking for other Festivals and events
interested similar explorations of place,
sound and performance.
